Jerry Manuel Doesn't Have A Clue
What is the purpose of pitching Fernando Nieve EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Aside from the fact that he is going to be completely burnt out by July, it is absurd to have Mejia up here, (which he shouldn't be), if he is only going to throw an inning every now and then. This is becoming a joke. And I am really disappointed in the usually brutally honest booth for not calling Manuel out on this. Cohen and Darling have been hamming it up about how comical it is that Nieve is pitching so much. This isn't funny. The Mets will not have a chance at a play off birth if this keeps up.
Nieve has pitched in seventeen games this season, and in six of those he has pitched multiple innings. Press conference after press conference Manuel sits there, talking about how impressive and resilient Nieve has been. And while that may be true you cannot expect him to keep this up. Why is nobody acknowledging this madness?
As Met fans we have become all too familiar with late season bullpen meltdowns. Apparently Manuel has learned nothing from this.

Unfortunately, more often than not, Jerry is managing just to make sure he has a job from month to month. He figures he will worry bout the second hlf condition of the bullpen if/when he gets there. Until then, he's just gonna throw his best arms out there as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Meija should definitely be in the minors getting innings as a starter. However, for the same reasons as above, he is up with the big team and in the pen
I call this the "Scott Proctor Rule". You want to make some major league money for a year or two? OK, Fernando, you can stay with the big club, but we are going throw you out there 50 games in the first half, shred your arm, DL you in July, then quietly release you in the off-season. It works better when you have someone with some skill to start with.
ReplyDelete"The Mets will not have a chance at a play off birth if this keeps up."
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the fact that Perez and Maine are still terrible, Pelfrey is coming back to earth, Reyes can't hit, Bay is washed up and/or injured, Beltran is never going to be healthy again, and Johan's fastball has become major league average and very hittable. But your right, too much Nieve is the problem.
"Not to mention the fact that Perez and Maine are still terrible, Pelfrey is coming back to earth"
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to use Pelfrey's last start as proof that he is coming back to Earth, then you have to use Maine and Perez's last start as proof that they have turned things in the right direction.
All this bullshit about proof. Do we really need more "proof" that these guys can't get it done? Break up the core and find some guys who give a crap so we can move on to the next era of underachieving Mets.

ReplyDeleteOr I can use Perez and Maines last 2 years to "prove" that they are both mediocre pitchers on the down swing of their careers.
